Greve in Chianti is famous for its particularly shaped main square, a beautiful piazza where a big and lively market takes place every Saturday. The square is surrounded by many medieval buildings such as the city hall and the Church of Santa Croce, and displays a statue of the famous explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano.
You’ll find it very pleasing wandering through its narrow streets and characteristic shops and then stopping for a unique Tuscan meal in one of the nice restaurants or osterias.
The Museum of Sacred Art, with beautiful terracotta sculptures, deserves a visit. The Wine Museum is also very interesting and not to be missed, as it offers wine tastings.
Finally, right on top of a hill above the town, you can admire the wonderful Castle of Montefioralle, where the famous explorer Amerigo Vespucci was born.
Many festivals and events regularly take place in Greve in Chianti, such as the Chianti Classico Wine Festival, taking place on the 2nd week of September every year.
On this special occasion the town is full of stalls and you can taste fantastic wines!
