Vicchio, a small town in Mugello valley, located in the surroundings of Florence to which is well connected by public transports, has ancient origins, has proven by the Etruscan findings. Besides the amazing natural surroundings, Vicchio is renowned for giving birth to two Italian painters of great importance, Giotto and Beato Angelico. At Vespignano, where actually Giotto was born, his home has become a popular sightseeing for many visitors all year round. In the main square of the town, there’s a statue dedicated to the famous painter, while another attraction is the bridge near Vespignano, named Cimabue bridge, where legend has it Cimabue (another Italian painter) met Giotto while, still a shepherd, was drawing a sheep. Many parish churches close by are worthy a visit, as well as the house where the artist and goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini used to stay when ended up in Vicchio: now it’s a renowned school where learning the art of goldsmithing that often organize art exhibitions.
