A Suspended Atmosphere

Because of its stunning and impressive beauty, Valdorcia has often become the scenic background of famous paintings, as well as the perfect setting for several movies.

Amongst some of the most famous films shot here: "The Gladiator" by Ridley Scott, "Romeo and Juliet" by Franco Zeffirelli and "The English Patient" by Anthony Minghella.

Valdorcia is in fact an important natural, artistic and cultural park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004; nature is still predominant with only a few signs of human habitation.

Time still goes slowly

While walking through the narrow streets of the lovely medieval towns, or driving along the winding country roads, you'll learn that time can still pass slowly in this part of Tuscany, as if in a suspended and almost surreal atmosphere.

Perched atop hills, many little villages and hamlets such as the famousMontepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia will enchant you.

After having spent a day walking among ancient walls and visiting silent churches, you can think of your wellbeing by having a soak in one of  many thermal baths spread out through the area, including Bagno Vignoni or San Filippo. End the day with a delicious candlelight dinner in one of the several restaurants and osterie offering romantic settings with panoramic views.
