San Giovanni has also been the first town in Italy to dedicate a Museum to truffle: housed in the medieval castle, it’s a sort of trip to the discover of truffle origin, history, tradition and local recipes, where all your senses will be involved in a real sensorial experience!

Actually, the town has a particular shape, since has developed all around the old center and looks like a sort of giant fortress, with its fort hill situated on the hilltop: a visit to the tiny and characteristic streets is really worthy your while!

The surroundings offer so many itineraries to visit that you’ll actually be spoilt for choice! The Crete Senesi and Val d’Orcia are home to those breathtaking views that you’ll have surely seen in postcards or pictures of Tuscany; closeby, there are many popular Tuscan destinations like Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia and obviously Siena with its marvellous old city center. Val d’Arbia and Mount Amiata are located a few steps away as well and offer enchanting itineraries amidst nature; Mount Amiata, moreover, turns into a renowned ski resort during Winter.

San Giovanni is also home to a wonderful interactive park realized amidst the gentle hills and holm oak that characterize the area by an American artist, the Bosco della Regnaia. It’s a sort of huge garden with giant sculptures that you are supposed to discover by walking around the park and enjoying its peaceful nature.

There’s also another interesting track to mention for all those keen on trekking itineraries, which is unknown to most tourists (and thus perfect for having a walk amidst unspoilt nature and explore the real essence of Tuscany): this is the white road that connects San Giovanni d’Asso to Buonconvento passing through the Ombrone valley, completely immersed in the suggestive Crete Senesi landscape.
