A Walk through Ages
Perfectly confined within mighty Medicean walls, Lucca is full of cathedrals, historical buildings, towers, villas, and museums to enjoy. You could walk along Via Guinigi and its ancient buildings, or stroll around and admire the six city gates which have been added over the centuries.
Piazza San Michele, that has been the center of the town for centuries, host the Church of San Michele, the Palazzo Pretorio and the Palazzo del Decanato.
While, in the large Piazza Napoleone you can admire the Palazzo Ducale, once a fortress which had been destroyed once and reconstructed several times over the centuries. You can visit its courtyards, the wonderful staircase, a gallery of statues and the famous Loggia built by Bartolomeo Ammannati.
The province of Lucca includes beautiful and renowned areas such as Versilia, Lunigiana and Garfagnana counting nice cities like Pontremoli and Forte dei Marmi.
Lucca is a fantastic place full of art treasures, but the city will not disappoint the food lover either! A dinner in one of the many restaurants in the city center, characterized by a tasty Tuscan cuisine accompanied by the unique wine will be quite memorable.
