At the port you can arrange for a boat ride to admire the island from a distance or to seek out a secret beach. There is a snorkeling and SCUBA diving center at the port where you can plan your underwater excursions. Head over to one of the many beaches all along the coast, choose one within walking distance of Cavo or use the public transport to head over to the many areas that offer sandy beaches, umbrellas and lounge chairs.
The island of Elba is bustling with things to do and places to explore its interesting and diverse history; between the national parks with breathtaking views, the various museums that about the ocean, minerals and even the ex-residence of Buonaparte Napoleon, there is always something to fill up your day. And for your nights, you can choose one of the local restaurants, watch the sunset from the port or spend the evening enjoying Capoliveri and the many activities the town plans in the square.
Back and Forth to the Mainland
The excellent position near the port makes it easy to program day trips to the mainland for exploring the quaint medieval hamlets not too far off from the coast. Massa Marittima is just the right distance to have you discover the beauty of the Tuscan hillside while venturing around an amazing little town from the 1300’s. Volterra, made even more famous with a few recent films, was first an Etruscan stronghold before passing over to the Romans and today it offers magnificent buildings, artwork and alabaster craftsmanship. Siena, is a pleasant and very panoramic drive from the mainland port of Piombino. Plan a day visiting the town square, cathedral and Torre di Mangia - not to mention some of the delicious culinary delights like panforte and ricciarelli.
